More about Freezer is cold but refrigerator is warm

A refrigerator works hard to keep the food and beverage fresh. There are days when the refrigerator goes out of order and stops cooling. One such common problem with the refrigerator is that its freezer section of fridge is cold but the food section does not cool enough/at all.

Reasons behind a warm food section of refrigerator are:

    • Frosted evaporator coils: Every refrigerator has a set of cooling coils called the evaporator coils. If the freezer section is cold but the food section is warm, there are chances that the evaporator coils of your refrigerator are frosted over. When the defrost heater of a refrigerator becomes faulty, it causes excessive frost build-up on cooling coils of refrigerator. In such situation call a PRO for refrigerator repair.
    • Faulty defrost heater of refrigerator: In a refrigerator there is a small fan mounted near cooling or evaporator coils. This fan draws air over the evaporator coils and circulates the cool air throughout the food section of fridge. This cool air keeps the food section cool and fresh. But during the cooling cycle of refrigerator, frost or ice gets accumulated on the evaporator coils. This accumulated frost or ice is melted by a defrost heater assembly of fridge. If the defrost heater assembly (i.e. the defrost heater, defrost thermostat or defrost timer) goes bad, the frost deposited over the coils does not melt and eventually no air travels through the coils to provide cooling to the food section. This makes the food section refrigerator warm. In such situation call an experienced service provider for refrigerator repair.
    • Faulty Evaporator Fan Motor: Every refrigerator has a set of coils called the evaporator coils.  These are the coils that get cold. A small fan is mounted near these coils. This fan draws air over the evaporator coils and circulate the cool air throughout the food section fridge. If the fan motor fails, fan stops working. If fan does not work, there is no air to travel through the coils and eventually there is no cooling in the food section of refrigerator. In such situation call a refrigerator repair professional.
    • Defective temperature sensors or thermistor: If the freezer is cold and the food section is warm, the thermistor of refrigerator might be defective. A thermistor is a sensor (a small capsule like device) that monitors the air temperature inside the refrigerator. The thermistor is connected to the control board. The control board uses the information shared (air temperature signals) by thermistor to start and stop the compressor and fan circuit. If the thermistor or sensor becomes defective it may wrongly signal the control board to stop the compressor and fan. This way the cooling cycle of refrigerator will be interrupted and will result in a warmer food section. In such situation call a professional for refrigerator repair.
    • Damaged control board: As explained above, control board has a very important part to play in the cooling cycle of fridge. So if the control broad goes bad, compressor and fan circuit will not turn on and cooling will not start. This will result a warm food section. In such situation call a technician for refrigerator repair.

The above are some common reasons behind warm food section of refrigerator but there can be other reasons as well.

What is included in the service?

The PRO visits client’s site and troubleshoots the problem of warm food section of refrigerator. The PRO looks for all possible reasons behind warm food section of refrigerator issue like broken evaporator fan, damaged control board and defective key components of fridge like compressor, condenser, motor and others. After the actual problem is identified, PRO describes the problem to the customer and suggests a possible repair or replacement for refrigerator not cooling. On customer consent, the PRO repairs the refrigerator.
